Moving, To begin this basketball drill, I want to see inside movement that mirrors the perimeter movement of the ball. For instance, start the post player at one low box, moving up the side of the lane to mid-post, then to high-post elbow, center high-post, other high-post elbow, down the other side to mid-and then low-post block. I want them shuffling their feet as they move, with wide stance, bent knees and upper body upright, while always facing out at the ball and with their hands in a ready, pass-receiving look. As they move, I will emphasize lane line rules and 3-seconds. So, when they stop in a position, I want the player to be sure the feet are placed outside the lane or FT linesnot touching the lines.
“So, how do I develop these crazy good dribbling skills?” is the next question you’re asking. Of course, to become skilled at dribbling a basketball, you must practice, practice, practice! Basketball dribbling is a skill that is developed by having the basketball in your hand and practicing with it as often as possible. There are basketball dribbling drills that will definitely improve your dribble, but you must be willing to put the time and work into practicing the drills in order to get better. Remember to avoid looking at the ball while you are dribbling!
After the basics of shooting have been achieved by the players, then different types of shots can be looked at for the game. Usually, you will want to practice with your players on types of shots, ones that are outside and others that are inside. The outside shooting will allow the players to shoot from a longer distance away. If these shots are made, then the team will make either two or three points from the basket. Inside shooting will be when the team is able to make a basket that is closer to the hoop. Things such as slam dunks are considered part of the inside shooting.
