Grade School Basketball An Outstanding Practice, For a team to play well in grade school basketball, it is very helpful that they have outstanding practices. These practices should include building the skills that it takes to be a winning team. This article describes an outstanding practice which you can use to build your team. The following practice is based on a one-hour time period which includes important elements to having an effective team. Let us break down the practice into five 12-minute segments.
The Low-Post Block, This is where we will spend most of our time learning the post/center play basics. I want the player close-in to the basket and as the player grasps skills and progresses, well then move all over the key. Starting with a good stance and feet placed outside the lane line, I want the players low foot (nearest baseline) above or barely touching the low box. This will become apparent soon. Players should always be cognizant of where the lines and post markings are, as they move about. This comes with repetition.
In the 2006 WC competition held in Saitama, Japan, the team only managed to come in third place, winning a bronze medal. The 2004 Athens Olympics produced the same result. The 2002 WC tournament held in Indianapolis, IN, did not end well for the U.S., as a team riven by internal discord stumbled to a sixth-place finish, the worst showing in history by an American squad in an international tournament.
